MICHAEL SYMPOSIUM
and MICHAEL DEBATE

MICHAEL SYMPOSIUM und MICHAEL DEBATE 2016

While MICHAEL PRIZE and MICHAEL LECTURE had been part of the biennial International Epilepsy Congress for quite some time, a MICHAEL event was also introduced to the European Congress on Epileptology in the in-between years. It started with the MICHAEL SYMPOSIUM at the European Congress on Epileptology 2008 in Berlin and was followed by another MICHAEL SYMPOSIUM 2010 in Rhodos.

A new concept was introduced for the European Congress on Epileptology 2012 in London: the MICHAEL DEBATE. A group of researchers – mainly MICHEAL PRIZE winners – shortly present different aspects of a chosen subject. They will then controversially discuss the subject first among themselves and then with the auditorium.

Since 2012, this form of the MICHAEL DEBATE has proved to be successful and is now part of the scientific program on the European Congresses on Epileptology.

MICHAEL DEBATE at the European Congress of Epileptology 2016 in Prague:

The MICHAEL DEBATE took place on September 11th, 2016, the first day of the 2016 Congress. The subject of the debate was “Remission and Epilepsy”, an apparently relevant and interesting subject, because the debate was well-attended with about 300 participants.

The debate was chaired by Peter Wolf (Denmark) and Vladimir Donath (Slovakia). Helen Cross (UK) talked about „Remission in Begnin Childhood Epilepsies” and Betül Baykan (Turkey) about “Remission in Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy”.
